Aphrodite

Aphrodite has a long connection with many people for her beauty but she was so much more. Most known as the Greek Goddess of Love, Beauty, Pleasure and Procreation, she identifies with the Planet Venus and is often pictured with roses and doves or swans around her. Born from a shell in the sea foam (that was produced by Uranus) she is the daughter of Zeus and Dione. Many say her beauty was so great it was feared to start wars and as such she was married off to Hephaestus, someone who was recognised as smart but not beautiful himself.

This is where I pick up with her strength in self love. She was true to her heart and a woman of her own heart. She was the epitome of love and all it encumbered and made it known through her lovers who numbered many. Whilst everyone recognised her beauty, she was strongly entranced in love from the inside out, and the recognition of our own beauty and all that we are. In this - she showed us that through our own self love we are never relying on another to create our self worth through approval, we already love who we are enough that we know and recognise our worth!

Why Sunflower and Quandong?

In honouring Andromache's balance of masculine and feminine qualities the sunflower seed too holds both qualities. In many cultures the sun is seen as a masculine energy and the sunflower seed holds plenty of it.  Following the sun through its journey throughout the day, this flower absorbs all its energy and opens each day in its feminine form to begin again. The seed is not just a healthy snack but produces a lush milk that is full minerals such as Magnesium and Selenium, it supports healthy Thyroid action and is a fabulous boost for the mood.  Couple this with the Australian Native Quandong and you have a power packed beverage.  The Quandong is a well sort after berry still today in traditional terms.  A brilliant scarlet fruit, this berry holds twice the Vitamin C of an orange , and was always used on long treks through the desert in both fresh and dried form.  It has a very high protein and is a great additive to sweet or savoury dishes.  As with all things used in traditional terms the entire tree was of benefit to the Indigenous Australians.  The wood used to make bowls and the seeds of the fruit for medicine.
